On September 13-14, the first version of Oz Comic-Con Sydney took over Glebe Island’s Exhibition Centre by storm, bringing gamers, cosplayers, comic book artists and international super-stars all together.
Despite the slightly pricey parking fees and confusing access to the venue (due to its location at Glebe Island), Sydneysiders arrived in full force at the event, with many of wearing their best costumes, with the sole purpose of having fun and get close to their favourite guest stars, that included heart-rob Orlando Bloom from the Lord of the rings saga, Jason Momoa from Game of Thrones, Star Trek legend William Shatner, Twilight’s Booboo Stewart and actors from hit series Veronica Mars, Stargate, Wharehouse 13, Buffy and Eureka, as well as iconic voice actors, illustrators and comic book artists.
In addition, the perfectly organized event and friendly staff made the full Oz Comic-Con experience even better for media and fans, with smooth access to the different panels, a great setup of the different exhibitors and stages, and enough space for cosplayers and general public to walk around freely.
Highlights of the exhibition were the Q&A panels, especially the one with Jason Momoa, who was simply a one-man show from beginning to end. The Conan actor, improvised some ‘Khal Drogo’ moments live on stage, speaking in perfect Dothraki, unleashing a huge ovation by his fans.
While being asked about the rumours attaching him to play the role of Aquaman in Batman vs Superman, Momoa, managed to get away every time, by saying “don’t believe all the internet rumours” and then adding the F** word at the end, in a hilarious way to break the ice. Furthermore, Mr. Momoa also denied being a frontrunner to play Drax the Destroyer in Guardians of the Galaxy. However, he did dropped a huge bomb during his Q&A, sending a clear message to DC, while being asked what superhero he would love to play, by saying:
“I like bad guys more…I’d like to play LOBO…Do you guys know LOBO?…I’d love to be LOBO!”
