Interview: Scott Ian of Anthrax Talks Oz Comic-Con

Anthrax guitarist and founder member Scott Ian, is heading back Down Under as part of his Spoken World Tour.

But that’s not all, because Scott will also be appearing as one of the superstar guests at the upcoming Oz Comic-Con Sydney and Brisbane, where he will share his passion about pop culture and music.

Thanks to Oz Comic-Con, we had the chance to have a chat with the man himself, Scott Ian, in order to find out more about his love for pop culture and of course about the chances of Anthrax vising Australia in the near future.

SR. Hi Scott, it always great talking to you. However, we would have never imagined that we will be chatting to you about a pop culture convention…How cool is that!

SI. I love this type of events! I’ve been attending conventions since I was 7 years old, and recently I’ve been invited to be part of quite a few, so it’s the dream, because I love comic books and horror, so this is a way to take my hobbies even further.

SR. You will be the judge of an air guitar competition at Oz Comic-Con. Have you ever done something like that?

SI. Not at all…I’m curious about it. I’ve seen plenty people doing air guitar of course, but judging a competition is a different thing. I really hope it’s fun, with a lot of humour and cosplayers going crazy.

SR. You are a massive Walking Dead and Breaking Bad fan. Just wondering what TV show are you currently watching?

SI. I’m loving the one based on Stephen King “Castle Rock”, such a good show. Obviously, I’m also watching the new season of Better Call Saul and I hope to start watching the second season of Ozark soon, maybe I even start on that one while in Australia.

SR. Can you tell us more about your experience as a zombie on The Walking Dead?

SI. As a horror fan, that was my full zombie dream coming true! I had to be getting ready for around 4.5 hours in order to get all the make-up and prosthetic’s ready and the shoot on set only took like 30 minutes, but it was so worth it!

I was lucky enough to have a scene with Rick and Carl, and the camera got a close up of me, so if you look carefully you can tell it was me, so it was so cool. Definitely one of the greatest experiences of my life.

SR. Obviously i need to ask you about your other passion, your music. We heard some rumours regarding your “other band” the Damned Things. Any update you can give us about it?

SI. We finished the new album, that’s all I can tell you. We don’t have any tour dates confirmed or launch date, but the album is done and I could not be happier about it. I’m very excited.

SR. I love the latest Anthrax album “For All the Kings” and i need to know, when are you guys heading back to Oz to play some of those tracks live? It has been way too long!

SI. I know, I’m hoping it will happen soon, but I don’t really know anything about new tour dates. I can tell you that we are super keen to go back to Australia and play, so hopefully next year we might have some news.

SR. Just to finish. I want to ask you about the Live show “Chile on Hell”…Just wondering why you guys choose Chile as the venue to showcase that tour?

SI. Because we know that we don’t need to worry about how the crowd will react in Chile and most of the South American countries as the fans there always go nuts.
