Social media has often been blamed for ‘dumbing’ down a generation and exposing the stupidity of mankind. And it always seems to be celebrities that demonstrate to us best how stupid they can be and how permanent the internet is.
Calum Hood, from the hugely successful Australian band 5 Seconds of Summer, has found this out the hard way having sent a nude Snapchat to a fan with a winky, smiley-face, which quickly went viral.
The fan uploaded the pic to Vine with the caption; ‘CALUMS DICK, I’M SCREAMING’ – we don’t doubt the sincerity of this statement.
Trying to play down the incident he tweeted after “Least ya know what it looks like now” before quickly replying again with “I’m still just a teenage kid leaning from my mistakes :)”. Undoubtedly, the latter tweet was at the request of management/PR trying to contain the issue.
The events mirror the recent, and highly embarrassing, case of James Franco who tried to pick up a 17-year-old UK girl that was visiting New York for the first time and get her to meet him at his hotel room via social media.
5SOS recently smashed the VMA’s, debuted No. 1 on the American charts and have sold more than two million singles in the US solidifying their status as one of biggest acts of the year and best bands to come out of Australia for a long time.
We just hope they learn from this, and keep it in their pants and off social media!
