Mac DeMarco will host Grill for Good in Melbourne this Sunday 12 January, inviting friends to join him behind the grill for an old school sausage sizzle. Running all-day for all-ages at Victoria Park, the event will feature local artists, chefs, DJs and small businesses banding together to collect donations for the Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities and Wildlife Victoria.
With currently over 8.4 million hectares burned across Australia and a billion animals that have perished in recent bushfires, locals and visitors alike have dug deep and donated funds for the embattled firefighters, affected communities and wildlife preservation efforts.
A frequent visitor to Australia throughout his career, Mac will pick up the tongs and shake the tins following the Melbourne leg of his national tour.
Joining Mac on the hot plate will be Alice Skye, Amyl and The Sniffers, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard, Laura Jean, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, and many more, as well as his tour mates Pond and CHAI (Japan). They’ll be supervised by and offered sausage-turning tips from some of Melbourne’s best chefs, including Tobie Puttock, Shannon Martinez (Smith & Daughters), Raph Rashid, David Moyle and more.
Classic meat and vege sausages can be paired with drinks from a bar operated by Blackhearts & Sparrows.
Soundtracking the day will be DJ sets from the likes of Cut Copy, Amyl and the Sniffers, Harvey Sutherland, Miss Blanks and friends, Remi and friends and Soju Gang.
Fans can also donate for a selfie with Mac, and purchase event merch provided by Love Police with artwork by Beci Orpin, with all funds going toward bushfire relief.

GRILL FOR GOOD IS FUNDRAISING FOR FIRE RELIEF FUND FOR FIRST NATIONS COMMUNITIES AND WILDLIFE VICTORIA.
If you can’t attend and would like to contribute, we’d appreciate your donation at the links provided.
With the scale and destruction of these fires so significant, there are numerous charities and funds worthy of financial contribution. Fundraising for these two, which focus on rebuilding and recovering impacted First People and wildlife respectively, is the specific focus of this event.
Fire Relief Fund for First Nations Communities is a gofundme campaign
initiated and maintained by Neil Morris, a Yorta Yorta First Nations man and community rights and empowerment advocate for fellow First Nations peoples. Very sadly, many First Nations People have been affected by these tragic bushfires, have lost their homes or been forced to evacuate. The Fire Relief Fund aims to help recover some of the costs for impacted individuals. Donate or learn more here.
Wildlife Victoria helps shelters and carers rebuild enclosures and equipment lost in the fires so they can continue their lifesaving work, and supports those struggling to cope with the enormous number of animals that will need care in the coming weeks and months.
