Sydney Film Festival 2019 – First Films Announced!

First Program Highlights:

LOCAL LEGENDS: Crucial Australian stories like The Final Quarter, about the shameful cutting-short of AFL star Adam Goodes’ illustrious career and a celebration of the lifework of Indigenous filmmaker Alfreda Glynn, She Who Must Be Obeyed Loved.

STAR POWER: French legend Claire Denis’ sex and blood fuelled sci-fi fantasy High Life starring Robert Pattinson and Juliette Binoche; Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development) and Holliday Grainger (The Borgias) as hedonistic 30-somethings in the adaptation of hit novel Animals; and Dev Patel (Lion, Slumdog Millionaire) in tense thriller The Wedding Guest.

POWERFUL DOCS: Edge-of-your-seat documentaries like Midnight Family about a bootleg family ambulance business in Mexico City, and The Kleptocrats, the story of the billion dollar 1MDB corporate scam.

SOUNDS ON SCREEN: Spine tingling music films like Aretha Franklin’s goose-bump-inducing 1972 live show Amazing Grace and PJ Harvey’s experiment in music and performance art A Dog Called Money.

FAMILY: Kid-friendly animated delights include Minuscule: Mandibles From Far Away, which returns to the big screen after gaining ABC TV and YouTube fame, with millions of views.
