Multi-Platinum selling rockers Buckcherry is set to hit Down Under this year to promote their latest album Hellbound. The band will hit our shores in November to play four shows alongside Chris Jericho’s band Fozzy.
To find out more about the tour, the new album and all things music, we had a chat with Buckcherry‘s frontman Josh Todd who also shared a “very unique” item he signed once for a fan.
SR. Finally our borders are open and you will be hitting our shores very soon alongside Fozzy. How is everyone doing and getting ready for the Australian tour?
JT. We are super pumped, we just finished playing shows here in the US after a long run for the Hellbound tour, and what better way to finish the full tour than in Australia. We are super excited to be there, you guys are super fun and love to play there, so it will be business as usual. Ive also just finished to record the vocals for our new album, so the energy is all in.
SR. New record you say? Can you tell us a bit more?
JT. At this stage we have around 10 songs ready to be named. Hopefully looking at a mid-year release next year, maybe July.
SR. Have you named the album yet?
JT. It’s top secret at this stage (laughs)
SR. Speaking about touring, the last time you were here was with Fozzy as well, opening for Steel Panther if I’m not mistaken. However, this time is just Fozzy and you guys, as mad rock & wrestling fan, just wondering if you would be keen to do a dream duet with Chris Jericho on stage for a song? Can we make it happen?
JT. (Laughs) That would be unique, I mean, I’d love to but also I’ve to hit very high notes and take care of my vocals after every show, so dunno, maybe if Chris (Jericho) is keen, we could definitely give it a go.
SR. Do you guys have a fix set-list for the Aussie tour, or you have room for small changes depending on the city?
JT. Absolutely, we always try to change the set as we have people, especially here in the US we see at every show in different cities, and that’s the ultimate praise a fan can give you, because now you play a show and the show is quickly online, so we try to give them some extra songs to make every show unique.
Obviously, tracks like Crazy Bitch and Lit up are must play, but we also like to include some stuff from the Time Bomb record and the “Fuck” EP.
SR. What can you tell us about working with producer Marti Frederiksen in Hellbound?
JT. He is producing this new record too. He has a very good energy, and he is very efficient with time, we pretty much wrote 9 songs in 10 days.
He respects your process and the direction you want to give to the albums, he always takes everything on board and makes thing better.
SR. Looking back at the 2009 self-titled album, how would you describe you musical journey so far?
JT. It has been an incredible journey, it has not been easy, but we are in the tiny fortunate bunch of people who managed to do this for a living, we always stayed true, and we plan on keep doing it.
SR. Can you share with us any funny tour story or weird fan request?
JT. We were on tour in Europe I believe with Motorhead, and we had this signing press table, and these young dudes, who were obviously drunk and off their head, ask me if I can sign his friend’s dick. I was like “what!?”, they insisted, and they were yeah can you sign it…and I was “I’ll sign it but I won’t touch it”.
The friend freaked out and left after noticing it was actually happening and he would need to put his dick on the signing table in front of everyone. Later on he got the guts to head back, and yes i did sign his dick with my sharpie pen (laughs).
SR. WOW!…after that I dunno what else to ask you (laughs). Just to finish, just wondering if you have any message for your Australian fans ahead of the tour?
JT. Thank you for the support, for waiting for us during the Covid pandemic, but now, we are ready. Australia, we are coming for you!
