Acmi Presents: DreamWorks Animation – The Exhibition

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) will host three exclusive events with special guests from DreamWorks Animation in Melbourne for the world premiere of DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition on Thursday 10 April.

Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Chief Creative Officer, Bill Damaschke, Production Designers Kendal Cronkhite (Madagascar) and Christophe Lautrette (The Croods, King Fu Panda), and Visual Effects Supervisor Doug Cooper (The Prince of Egypt, Spirit: Stallion of Cimarron), will visit Melbourne for the world premiere and a set of public and industry events.

Opening the schedule of events on Tuesday 8 April, In Conversation with Bill Damaschke provides audiences with the opportunity to hear the Chief Creative Officer discuss his exceptional career, his central role in DreamWorks Animation’s future releases, and give insights into the creative hub of one of the world’s largest animation studios in operation.

From overseeing the creative production and development processes of feature projects, to shaping teams and growing the studio’s talent pool, Bill Damaschke plays an integral role in bringing DreamWorks’ worlds to the big screen. Since joining DreamWorks in 1995 as a producer, Damaschke has overseen the release of a range of key titles, from Academy Award®-winning blockbuster Shrek in 2001 to recent worldwide box office smash, The Croods in 2013.

On Thursday 10 April, Bill Damaschke, along with Kendal Cronkhite, Christophe Lautrette, and Doug Cooper, will appear at Inside the Studio, a unique event giving an insight into their creative processes and how animation has evolved over the history of the studio’s many hit titles. The event will also reveal the collaborative curatorial process between DreamWorks Animation and ACMI that made the world premiere exhibition a reality.

Later that evening, ACMI hosts an exclusive evening with Jeffrey Katzenberg. He will share his experiences and insights as CEO and Co-Founder of DreamWorks and share what’s next for the animation studio.

Under Katzenberg’s leadership, DreamWorks has become the largest animation studio in the world releasing 28 animated feature films which have enjoyed both critical and commercial successes, earning nine Academy Award® nominations and wining twice for Best Animated Feature with Shrek (2001) and Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005).

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition has been curated by ACMI in collaboration with DreamWorks Animation and is the studio’s first large-scale international exhibition. The world premiere as part of the Melbourne Winter Masterpieces series is ACMI’s largest ever exhibition, featuring over 400 items including, never-before-seen concept drawings, interviews, models and original artworks, and interactive experiences for children and adults. Visitors will lose themselves in the extraordinary worlds created by DreamWorks’ award-winning artists and travel with beloved characters, from original sketches through to grumpy ogres, friendly dragons and Kung Fu-fighting pandas.

DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition opens at the Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Federation Square, on Thursday 10 April and runs until Sunday 5 October 2014. For more information, please visit
