Top skiers and snowboarders to tackle Australia’s Biggest Jump in Thredbo

Thredbo, Australia’s premier ski resort, is excited to welcome back the One Hit Wonder Mountain Festival, where the world’s best free skiers will compete on Australia’s biggest jump. In a week of celebrations and competition, One Hit Wonder will transform Thredbo into a mecca of entertainment, big air skiing and Australia’s best après.

Australia’s only gold-ranked AFP (Association of Freeskiing Professionals) event, this year, the competition will play out above Cruiser chairlift1 at the top of Merritts in Thredbo. There, the resort’s terrain park team will mould an incomprehensible amount of snow into a massive 100ft jump – Thredbo’s centrepiece for the Festival. For years, the jump in Thredbo has been regarded as one of the best and biggest on the planet, playing host to Australia’s first competition double cork, and the Southern Hemisphere’s first triple cork.

Taking place from Tuesday to Saturday (weather dependent), the annual Toyota Big Air spectacle will see the world’s best big air riders tackle the jump in the hopes of taking home the crown. Last year’s champion Elias Ambühl of Switzerland will defend his title against Australian Olympian Russ Henshaw, who had back-to-back wins at the event in 2012 and 2013. Currently two of the best big air skiers in the world, Ambühl and Henshaw will be pulling out all the tricks at One Hit Wonder as they look to gain early points on the 15/16 AFP season leader board.

To top it all off, One Hit Wonder will host the “Game Show” round on Saturday 12th September. This year’s revised format will see teams of two skiers combine their tricks to wow an X-Factor style judging panel. Adding another layer of difficulty and showmanship to the One Hit Wonder roster, the “Game Show” teams will attempt to complete the allocated amount of tricks in order to score as high as possible with the judges.

The fun continues off the slopes, with Melbourne indie-pop band, Alpine, topping off a massive week of fun in Thredbo. Known for their honeyed harmonies, hypnotic rhythms and bright beats, Alpine will hit the stage in Thredbo Village Square for a free concert on Saturday night thanks to Corona Extra.

To celebrate the festival, Thredbo and the One Hit Wonder are giving fans the chance to win a trip to Thredbo and a GoPro HERO4 Silver camera (plus mounts and accessories). To enter the OHW GoPro Challenge, submit a short GoPro clip showing how much fun you like to have in the snow. Entries are open now here until 5th October.

All the action and entertainment during this huge week is free for visitors, with plenty on offer for all abilities and ages to enjoy. Thredbo is currently offering great value accommodation packages for One Hit Wonder, ranging from $186* per person, per night or $133* per person, per night for families.
