All superhero dads can come together in one place this Father’s Day, with Oz Comic-Con Brisbane throwing open their doors on Sunday 7th September. Families can spend the day together at the Convention and Exhibition Centre, immersing themselves in all things pop culture.
Dads, mums, kids, and dads who are just big kids, can celebrate with gaming, comics, cosplayers, sci-fi and the stars of hit TV shows and movies – all under the one roof. Nintendo will be present at the event, giving attendees a chance to play unreleased games and fan-favourite hits. A number of other tabletop and card gaming zones will also available for a bit of friendly inter-generational competition.
Families with younger children will also be able to take a break in the Oz Comic-Con Family Activity Room. With fun activities such as Lego speed building competitions, arts, crafts, interactive classes and hands-on workshops, it’s the perfect space for parents to keep kids entertained away from the hustle and bustle of the main floor.
Everyday dads can hang out with the famous dads appearing at Oz Comic-Con Brisbane, including first-timer, The Lord of the Rings and Pirates of the Caribbean star, Orlando Bloom and Oz Comic-Con favourite, William Shatner (Star Trek, Boston Legal).
One special dad will definitely be in attendance, with voice actor Paul Eiding sharing the day with his daughter McKenna who will be joining him in Brisbane. An actor too, McKenna has followed her father’s footsteps onto the stage and screen – and dad could not be more proud.
“McKenna is one of my heroes,” says Paul, “She has studied at the Globe in London, has had a master class with Mark Rylance, and has already performed more Shakespeare than her dad! McKenna’s sister Connor is also an actor, and having both our daughters following their hearts means a lot to my wife and I. Frankly, I don’t care if they’re actors or not, I just care that they find what fulfils them and makes them happy. So far, they’re doing just that. “
Paul will be joined by fellow voice actors Jim Cummings (Winnie The Pooh, Tigger), Bill Farmer (Goofy), Rodger Bumpass (Squidward Tentacles in SpongeBob SquarePants) and Monica Rial (Bulma from Dragon Ball Z Kai), giving kids the chance to meet the voices behind some of their favourite characters.
Other highlights include appearances from celebrities such as Nicholas Brendon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Emma Caulfield (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Jason Momoa (Games of Thrones, Stargate Atlantis), Eddie McClintock (Warehouse 13), Joanne Kelly (Warehouse 13), Jason Dohring (Veronica Mars), Percy Daggs III (Veronica Mars), Michael Muhney (Veronica Mars, The Young and The Restless), Stephen Hunter (The Hobbit), Booboo Stewart (The Twilight Saga, X-Men: Days of Future Past), Dean O’Gorman (The Hobbit) and Chris Judge (Stargate SG-1), as well as a host of comic book artists and film and TV stars that dads will love.
Oz Comic-Con Brisbane will also feature two days of celebrity Q&A panels, autograph and professional photograph opportunities, special screenings, industry master classes, portfolio reviews and a huge range of vendors selling exclusive merchandise.
Tickets are available through Showclix (www.showclix.com/events/18185) or on the door. Plus, children ages 12 and under can enter for free all weekend with a paying adult – so dad and kids can spend a super day together.
