Cardcaptor Sakura The Movie – DVD Review

Thanks to Madman, we had the chance to see the first feature film of the anime hit Cardcaptor Sakura on DVD.

sakura movie 1The film follows young Sakura and her inseparable friends during a trip to Hong Kong – a place that Sakura’s magical pet, Kero, knows very well, having once lived there himself.

What was set to be a fun trip becomes Sakura’s greatest challenge. She must save her loved ones from being trapped in the phantom world, as dark forces have once again struck back, reminding her of evil sorcerer, Clow Read’s, evil legacy.

sakura movie 2Originally released in 1999 under the direction of Morio Asaka, Cardcaptor Sakura: The Movie brings back all of the elements that made the magical TV series an instant classic within the magical girls genre: cute young characters, sorcery, mystic powers, action, comedy and a beautifully crafted animation by the geniuses from Clamp, the iconic animation studio behind other hits, such as X, Angelic Layer and Chobits.

The original voice cast also returns for this epic adventure, with Sakura Tange bringing Sakura back to life once again, alongside voice actresses Kumai Motoko (Li) and Junko Iwao (Tomoyo).

In addition, Sakura fans will be treated with a small, but beautiful, movie guide booklet included with the DVD. Moreover, extra features include trailers and TV commercials.
