‘Cardcaptor Sakura: Complete Collection’ Review

Our friends at Madman were able to get another classic collection into our hands, this time another of our childhood favourites, the ultra kawaii ‘Cardcaptor Sakura: Complete Collection’ on DVD.

The anime ‘Cardcaptor Sakura’ (CCS) is based on the manga of the same name created by CLAMP (Chobits, Angelic Layer, Magic Knight Rayearth).

The story follows elementary student Sakura Kinomoto in her quest to capture the magical cards from the powerful sorcerer Clow Reed, after unleashing the card by mistake by opening an old book.

Kerberos, the guardian of the magical cards, wakes up in his pet-form (Kero-chan) after the release of the cards and decides to transform Sakura into a cardcaptor. Her mission is to collect every loose card from Clow’s deck that might be causing problems and transform them into Sakura cards.

Sakura is followed closely by her best friend Tomoyo Daidouji who films every adventure and creates beautiful outfits for her.

Later in the series, Shaoran Li, a direct descent of Clow, arrives from Hong Kong and joins the action with his cousin Meiling.

CCS is a beautiful story that will melt your heart and it’s packed with comedy bits and action. The series shines with its peculiar cuteness, great story, lovable characters and sweet topics. Family, friends and the innocence of first love are major topics throughout series.

Sakura is a fantastic main character. She is extremely cute, funny and shy. Through the series she will gain confidence mastering the use of the cards and will become their guardian.

The essence of the manga is captured beautifully with gorgeous artwork, bright colours and a stunning animation. The spirits of the cards are especially beautiful, and every capture is a real treat for the viewers.

Madman brings ‘Cardcaptor Sakura: Complete Collection’ in DVD to Australia. The 70 episodes series are set in 9 discs. The extras include: opening and closing songs.
