MGM has announced that they have acquired the rights to make a Where’s Wally? film.
Known in the US as Where’s Waldo?, for “Wally” proves as elusive a concept to the Americans as a Philosopher’s Stone, the character was first created in 1987 by British illustrator Martin Handford, with readers challenged to find Wally in double-page spreads filled with other characters and red-herrings. The books have sold over 55 million copies around the world, with 4.6 million apps for the iPhone and iPad.
“Waldo is the most searched-for character in the world,” said Eric Ellenbogen, co-CEO, Classic Media. “With thanks to MGM, fans everywhere will find Waldo in movie theaters with his motion picture debut.”
