“A dazzling thriller with a stellar performance by James McAvoy”
Thanks to Universal Pictures Australia we had the chance to see M.Night Shyamalan‘s latest thriller “Split” before its official cinematic release. This is our review of the film, but as usual remember that there is no better critic than yourself.
“Split” follows the story of three young girls who are kidnapped by a man diagnosed with a multiple personality disorder (played by James McAvoy) who is attempting to unleash his 24th and most dangerous personality to date, ‘The Beast’.
In order to survive, the girls need to figure out which one of their captor’s personalities might be able to help them before it’s too late.
After amazing viewers with the superb “The Visit” (2015), M.Night Shyamalan‘s big comeback continues, with this new suspenseful thriller that surpasses all expectations. The clever, yet simple, storyline is immensely satisfying. James McAvoy (X-Men, Filth) turns in an mesmerizing, Academy Award-worthy, performance, and demonstrates his capacity to switch between diverse characters within minutes. He’s convincing as a creep named Barry, a girl named Patricia, and even a 9-year-old boy who loves to dance like Kanye West.
Overall, “Split“ is an absolute triumph, featuring a very stressful narrative that will have viewers stuck to their seats thanks to the superb performances of the entire cast and to a director who is returning to his roots. This movie also features one of the best and most unexpected endings since “The Village”.
Split opens in cinemas 26 January 2017
