Bohemian Rhapsody has been praised worldwide by fans of both music and film, especially thanks to Rami Malek‘s take on the legendary Freddie Mercury, a performance that got him well-deserved Golden Globe and Academy Award nominations for best actor.

Directed by Bryan Singer (and finished by Dexter Fletcher), the film follows the rise of one of history’s greatest bands, Queen, with a special focus on its legendary frontman Freddie Mercury (Malek), whose charming but controversial personality made him a timeless music icon. You can check our full movie review for the film here.

Now, with the film being released on Blu-ray, 4K and DVD, it’s time to dig into the extra features, including the full and totally mindblowing uncut Live Aid performance, which is 20 minutes of pure Queen Magic with songs like “Hammer to Fall”, “Crazy Little Thing Called Love” and “We Will Rock You” (which we still can’t believe didn’t make the final theatrical cut) performed in full by the cast. Malek proves once again why he’s a solid contender to get the Oscar. This extra feature on its own is worth seeing over and over again and is the biggest reason to get the home release. Seriously: you won’t regret it!

In addition, there is a superb behind-the-scenes look at the transformation and intense training endured by Rami Malek to get into character, as well as a feature that takes viewers into the recreation of the music of Queen and how that was transferred to the big screen. Queen fans will definitely love this, especially because of the input by the legendary Queen guitarist Brian May and drummer Roger Taylor, who were closely involved in the production of the movie.

There is also an entire feature about the recreation of the Live Aid performance, including the technical challenges, and the comparisons with the original 1985 footage against the film. Sadly, the digital effects to recreate the massive crowd at the show are far from impressive, and look more like the crowd of a sports video game.

Overall, the Bohemian Rhapsody home entertainment release takes the film to the next level, and will make Queen fans sing out loud and move them to tears, while also creating a whole new generation of Queen followers.
