LINGERIE FOOTBALL LEAGUE All-Stars shine in Brisbane

After much hype and excitement in a battle that rivalled any NRL game’s intensity, the Lingerie Football League’s first-ever Australian All-Star Game thrilled fans at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre tonight.

The rivalry between the LFL’s ‘Gridiron Goddesses’ of the Eastern and Western Conferences of America is much like the rivalry between Queensland and New South Wales in the Rugby League State of Origin Series. With Queensland’s own Chloe Butler, Captaining the Western Conference the home ground advantage was an obvious one with the girls from the West flying the flag for the Maroons leaving Liz Gorman’s Eastern Conference as the underdogs striving to break the losing streak of the Blues and return some pride to NSW ahead of next week’s Home game in Sydney but, alas, that wasn’t to be.

The teams clashed tonight in a super storm of athletic prowess as the Eastern and Western Conference’s elite battled in a high-energy dramatic showdown with the West charging to a 31-6 halftime lead behind a strong all-around performance by All-Star MVP ChrisDell Harris (Chicago Bliss). But the East didn’t give in easily, rallying in the second half but ultimately falling short with the West winning 45-36.

The 2012 LFL All-Fantasy Games Tour serves as the latest example of the rapid ascent of the United States’ ‘fastest-growing sports league’ (BusinessWeek) to international mainstream popularity, while underscoring the evolution of the sport over the past three seasons through its players’ commitment to excellence in all facets of their profession, both on and off-the-field.

At the half time break, the crowd were introduced to the 28 athletes who advanced to compete for the opportunity to play for the Brisbane team in LFL Australia set to premiere in December 2013.

Taming the wild aggression of the 32 players on the field tonight was no mean feat and the LFL enlisted the most experienced and respected coaches of the League to be at the helm of each team. Coaching the Western Conference/Maroons were five-time Lingerie Bowl winning coach David Bizub (LA Temptation) and 2012 Coach of the Year and three-time All-Star coach, Chris Michaelson (Seattle Mist).  On the Eastern Conference / Blues bench were 2011 Coach of the Year and four-time All-Star coach, Chandler Brown (Philly Passion) and two-time All-Star coach and former NFL player Yo Murphy (Tampa Breeze).

Don’t miss the 2nd game in the LFL All-Star Game Tour when the girls go at it again at Allphones Arena in Sydney next Saturday night!
