Last Friday, World Champion snowboarder Scotty James took home his first ever X Games gold medal in the halfpipe. James was on form right out of the gate, putting down a flawless first run that scored him a 90.0, setting the bar at a height that couldn’t be matched by any other rider in the 12-man final.
After taking out the bronze in 2016, Scotty returned to Aspen hungrier than ever, and this result is evidence that he is the rider to beat in 2017.
This year’s final has been lauded as one of the most stacked in X Games history – the 22-year-old from Warrandyte beat the likes of I-Pod, Danny Davis, Shaun White and Ben Ferguson in the 22’ pipe. In the end, Only Matt Ladley and Taylor Gold came close, scoring an 80.0 and a 79.0 to take home the Silver and Bronze respectively (copy via Redbull.com).
Leading up to the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics the stakes are incredibly high for Australian competitors and Red Bull athletes Scott James, Alex ‘Chumpy’ Pullin and Russ Henshaw as they battle it out against other riders in an attempt to clock the points and meet the criteria to qualify.
