Thanks to Madman we got to see the anime adaptation of Shoji Gatoh‘s light comedy series Amagi Brilliant Park on DVD.
Egomaniac Seiya Kanie is dragged out on a date with beautiful and mysterious schoolmate Isuzu Sento, who takes him to visit a struggling amusement park named Amagi Brilliant Park, which is about to be closed forever. Seiya finds out the park’s staff is a group of creatures from a magical realm called Maple Land, whose duty is to keep the park working in order to harvest magical energy from visitors. In order to save the park, the park’s owner, princess Latifah, makes Seiya the new manager and uses his ego and perfectionism to get more visitors.
Amagi Brilliant Park is a fresh series superbly mixing comedy, magic and drama, all thanks to a simple storyline and likeable characters, including humans, seals and even dragons.
The main highlight of the series is the trio of Tirami, Macaron and Muffle, the three mascots are simply hilarious. Despite their cute appearance, they like to drink after work, get into fights and even look at some naughty photos once in a while.
Overall, Amagi Brilliant Park is fun and addictive. It has quite a slow first few episodes, but once you get through them, you won’t be able to stop, especially because of the random situations the park staff must face to bring visitors back.
